『真の哲学者』～ 知識 & 真理 & 全体を見通す理解 ～
2026年１月14日、アメリカ在住の娘から【Do you remember when I wrote this? I just found it】とのメールが届いた(下記)。【My father once wrote in his book (父はかつて著書の中で、記しています) 】 娘に褒められて 大いに感激した。

It is often said that viewing the world from a macro perspective causes one to miss important details, while focusing too narrowly on the micro makes it difficult to grasp the whole. Both perspectives are essential. Yet rare is the discerning individual who can see both the entire forest and the bark on the trees. Pathologists, by the nature of their profession, are required to do exactly this. By examining cancer cells in detail—down to their DNA composition—while simultaneously considering their broader implications, a pathologist can envision a distant image of human society. One who achieves this balance is a true cancer philosopher.
A true philosopher embodies knowledge, truth, and the meaning of life by holding both macro and micro perspectives at once. Through careful attention to the smallest details and an understanding of the larger whole, such a person perceives reality in its fullest form. This, to me, is what defines a true philosopher—much like my father.

【一般に、物事をマクロな視点で捉えると 細部を見落としがちになり、逆にミクロな視点に集中しすぎると 全体像を把握することが難しくなると言われます。 どちらの視点も不可欠です。 しかし、森全体を見渡すと同時に、一本一本の木の樹皮まで見極められる洞察力を持つ人は、極めて稀です。 病理医という職業は、その本質として、まさにこの両立を求められます。 『がん細胞』に直接触れ、そのDNA構成にまで踏み込みながらも、その先にある人間社会の遠景を思い描くことができる。 その境地に到達した者こそが、真の『がん哲学者』なのです。
『真の哲学者』とは、マクロとミクロ、両方の視点を同時に抱きながら、知識、真理、そして人生の意味を体現する存在です。 最も微細な事象への注意と、全体を見通す理解を併せ持つことで、その人は 現実を最も完全な形で捉えることができます。 私にとって、それこそが『真の哲学者の定義』であり ―― それは、まさに『私の父の姿』なのです。(訳は メリアム・ウェブスター辞典によるとのことである)】
